Parabolic curve

January 20, 2009

A parabolic curve, when drawn on a graph is a U shaped curve. The significance is that the curve starts out at a low value, which increases steadily and at one point it will be at it’s highest value. Once the highest value has been reached, it will slowly decrease at the same rate it had increased, up to the point it will reach it’s original value.

Parabolic curve. The perfect analogy of what I want to write about. I am writing about the process of learning and unlearning.

Unlearning? Is forgetting what you have learnt a waste? Not necessarily.

So, what exactly do we unlearn? It may seem hard to point out but actually it is easy. Easy in theory but hard to implement.

Easy example. When we are young, we are taught how to differentiate things. We are taught how to “differentiate” people according to their race, Chinese, Malay, Indian, Whatever. We learn that there are many different races, many different religions. We learn to segregate and be bias. It is time to unlearn. Forget all these “names”/”terms”. Have we forgotten that we are all human? Have we forgotten that we are so similar to one another? We eat, we breathe, experience both joy and pain yet we tell ourselves we are different from other people.

People who know me well, know I have an intense “hatred” to religion yet some people call me “religious”. Why do I hate religion so much? One reason is because religion usually brands people in to different groups. They teach us that everyone is different, they make people forget that we are all the same (Before I continue let me preemptively clarify that I know that everyone is unique, I am speaking figuratively that we are all the same).

Hmmm… I don’t think I can continue much anyway, I’ve stated my point and I don’t think I need to explain in more detail. I believe the people who read my articles are smart and intelligent people who are capable of comprehending the message I am trying to spread. If that is not the case, just ignore what I have written and accept the fact that I have wasted a minute of your life reading this (I have killed 1 minute of your life).
